Renaissance Faire

We had so much fun at the Utah Renaissance Faire this weekend! We got to meet so many cool people and see some pretty cool stuff.

We say a lot of cool Cosplays, for example: Data from StarTrek, Maid Marian from Disney's Robin Hood--no really, she was in a fox suit, a couple of "knights" with coconuts for horses (video on our facebook page), a woman dressed as David Bowie from Labyrinth (ok, this one was more weird than cool), and we even saw Captain Hook from Once Upon a Time! Plus there was probably more that we did not recognize.

Oh and Leisha got a new outfit from Damsel in this Dress...

We only wish that it was not raining the whole weekend. We did great despite that, but we feel that we could have done better if it was sunshiny and happy outside.

We had enough fun though, that we are definitely going to be doing this show again in the future!

Awesome note: We were featured in one of the pictures on the Salt Lake Tribune's article on the Faire.

Monty Python Inspired Knight Tunics

Who has seen Monty Python and the Holy Grail?
I sure have, and I have always thought it was hilarious.

I have taken inspiration from one of my favorite scenes for my latest project.

**Warning, this scene is pretty violent and has a few cuss words**

I now possess the costumes needed to recreate this scene!
I think they look perfect! You will have to let me know what you think.

Introducing King Arthur and The Black Knight!

It was so fun putting these together, but I have to say it took a long time. The goofy smiley-sun that is Arthur's crest took over two hours for the embroidery to complete.

I spent the time making other things of course, but I kept getting distracted watching the machine to see the designs take shape.

These were cut men's size XL. They 52" long and have 54" chest.
They can be made longer or shorter.

The surcoats are made with a very heavy duty bottom weight fabric called Trigger.

I will, of course, be selling these on my website and eBay.

Wheel of Time, Aes Sedai Inspired Shawls

My daughter has been obsessed with the Wheel of Time book series by Robert Jordan and Brandon Sanderson for years now. She has always told me that we need to make some shawls that the "Aes Sedai," a powerful group of women, wear.

Finally I found an applique that would work for it and put some together.

I am missing a few of the colors for all the "Ajahs" right now--I can make them,
 I just haven't yet.

**Update 9-30-14**
We now have a Yellow Ajah Shawl!

The "White Flame of Tar Valon," is a machine embroidered applique and is about the size of a hand. It can be made a little bigger or smaller as desired.

These are available on our website and Etsy.

Of course as soon as I made one, Leisha wore it to the Salt Lake Comic Con!

Weekend in Review

I have mentioned that we planned on going to Fillmore's Old Capitol Arts and Living History Festival. We did! It was so fun and we did so well!

While I was there it was kinda funny. I met a lady who was interested in our superhero capes. She told me that she was at Comic Con the previous day, and that while she was there she looked all over for some capes for her kids, but couldn't find any!

Well, it just so happened that I sent my daughter up to Comic Con to scope it out! She and her husband even cosplayed in some of our costumes!

He was dress in our Aragorn inspired tunic (blog to come) and she sported a Renaissance ballgown and an Aes Sedai, Wheel of Time, inspired shawl (again, blog to come.)
They even got to meet Brandon Sanderson (the co-author of WoT) and he signed a book for them!

(Isn't that wig just horrible!--I told her not to wear it.)

Fun Fact: Her name is even in the book he signed for her!

Anyway, from her experience at Comic-con and mine in Fillmore, we decided that we are going to try to get a booth at next year's Salt Lake Comic Con for sure.
We will keep you updated as we figure that out--I mean we do have a whole year.
But it will be a busy one!
Also keep an eye out for our upcoming blog about our next event!
